We headed to Brands Hatch, Kent, not knowing quite what to expect. Team owner, Pete Banks, told us that if Tim managed to qualify for the race, we'd have done well. That put everything into perspective for us as we prepared to embark on a remarkable journey. Tim's first season on a GP125, in at the "deep end!" We had arrived at the British Superbike championship paddock!
Tim went on to qualify for all of the thirteen races and most of them were on tracks he had never raced at before. At just fourteen years old, Tim was entered in the Dorna Academy Cup, and was the most consistent point's scorer by season end, scoring points in all of the twelve races he finished, completing the Cup championship in 6th overall.
Points were scored in the main championship, on four occasions, Thruxton (15th), Mondello Park (14th), Knockhill (11th) and Brands Hatch Indy (13th). Interestingly, two of these circuits Tim knew well, Knockhill & Brands Hatch Indy. The other two circuits are ones that no-one knows particularly well, given that no practice days are allowed at Thruxton and Mondello being pretty much a new circuit to everybody.
Tim's first season at BSB has been a tremendous success and we have all enjoyed making many new friends and meeting up with several -old- friends all of whom have contributed in making the BSB paddock a pleasure to be involved with. Fellow racers, James Ford & Brian Clark took time out of their own busy schedules to help and offer advice. Derek Huxley, (Tradedeck Ltd), not only repaired damaged wheels but also drew upon his own personal experience of the Oulton Park circuit to help with Tim's first visit to the track.
It has been an a privilege to have been associated with the Banks Racing Team and watching Tim grow in stature and confidence under the watchful eye of Pete Banks, ably assisted by Allan Green. Team mates, Michael Hill and Jamie Ferguson, both of whom suffered serious injury this season, compliment the team and have been a pleasure to race both against and alongside.
Thanks are due to a great many people, those who have generously dipped into their pockets, and those who have taken the time to stop by and wish us well. The emails and text messages have been most welcome and sincerely appreciated.
Our season would not have been possible without the backing we received from our sponsors and supporters, namely Applied Sweepers – Digby Brown – Pro-Scot – Nevis Marketing – Arkose Design & NGK. You have all contributed significantly to Tim's success, Thank you.
